Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about morphedra — licensing, plans, credits, and security.
General
5 questionsmorphedra is a scientific communication platform for researchers, academic institutions, journals, hospitals, NGOs, and R&D teams. It uses multimodal processing to transform your text — an abstract, results, or key findings — into publication-ready illustrations (2D and 3D), scientific video abstracts, and social media posts designed for academic, grant, and institutional audiences. Already-published work can also be imported directly by DOI, PubMed ID, or patent number.
morphedra is built for researchers, principal investigators, academic journals, universities, hospitals, NGOs, science communicators, grant writers, clinical teams, and industry R&D groups. If you need credible scientific visuals and narratives for publications, grants, conferences, or institutional outreach — morphedra is for you.
The workflow is simple: (1) Paste your text — an abstract, results, or key findings, published or unpublished. (Already have a DOI, PubMed ID, or patent number? You can import metadata from that instead.) (2) Select a communication goal — social post, 2D illustration, 3D journal cover, or video. (3) Choose a scientific tone (e.g., journal-ready, grant-writing, patient voice, policy brief). (4) Review and download your output. Illustrations typically take 45-90 seconds to generate (about 60 seconds on average), and posts take a few seconds.
morphedra uses leading multimodal AI systems, specifically prompted and tuned for academic and research communication. For image generation, we use state-of-the-art models tuned for scientific accuracy. Specific provider names are disclosed in our Privacy Policy, as required for data-processing transparency.
No. morphedra is an independent platform operated by AN-MAYS (SMC-PRIVATE) LIMITED, Pakistan. We are not affiliated with any academic publisher, journal, or funding body. Content generated is not pre-approved or endorsed by any publisher.
Licensing & Publication
7 questionsYes. All illustrations generated under a paid plan come with an Academic Use License covering peer-reviewed publications, conference proceedings, preprints (bioRxiv, medRxiv), and grant applications. Attribution is required: add 'Figure created with morphedra (morphedra.com)' to your figure legend. Download a formal license letter from your Illustrations Dashboard for journals that require documentation.
The Academic Use License is compatible with submission requirements for Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley, American Chemical Society (ACS), RSC, Cell Press, PLOS, BMJ, Oxford University Press, and most other major publishers. If a specific journal has questions, your downloadable license letter provides the necessary documentation.
Many funders (including NIH, Wellcome Trust, and ERC) require or encourage disclosure of tools. We recommend adding: 'Scientific illustrations were created using morphedra (morphedra.com), a scientific visualization platform.' This satisfies most current funder disclosure requirements. Download your license letter from the dashboard for additional documentation.
Individual plans include an Academic Use License for non-commercial academic and educational use. Commercial use — pharmaceutical marketing, investor materials, advertising, product promotion — requires a Commercial License available on Corporate and Institutional plans. Full details at morphedra.com/licensing.
Yes, under all license tiers. Standard form: 'Figure created with morphedra (morphedra.com).' This mirrors how the research community credits other scientific tools (BioRender, GraphPad). Attribution is copyable in one click from your illustration's License and Attribution panel.
Academic License: journals, conferences, theses, grants, educational materials — permitted with attribution. Institutional License: additionally covers university and hospital websites, NGO reports, and patient education materials. Commercial License: marketing, advertising, investor decks, commercial websites — available on Corporate/Institutional plans. Full details at morphedra.com/licensing.
Yes. Open access publication is fully covered under the Academic Use License. Note that the CC-BY licence applied to your published article does not extend to the morphedra illustration itself — attribution to morphedra must still appear in your figure legend.
Plans & Pricing
7 questionsmorphedra offers three ways to pay — whichever fits your research rhythm. Figure Credits (pay-as-you-go, never expire): Starter Pack 10 credits for $19.99 ($2.00/figure), Pro Pack 25 credits for $44.99 ($1.80/figure), Power Pack 75 credits for $119.99 ($1.60/figure). Monthly subscriptions: Starter $4.99/month (20 posts, 3 illustrations), Basic $14.99/month (100 posts, 10 illustrations), Pro $29.99/month (200 posts, 20 illustrations). Annual subscriptions: Basic $169.00/year, Pro Suite $339.00/year (save ~6%). Team & Institution licenses: Lab License $999/year (5 seats, 750 figures), Lab Pro $1,799/year (12 seats, 1,500 figures), Department $2,999/year (25 seats, 3,000 figures), Institution $4,999/year (50 seats, 6,000 figures). All paid plans include DOI integration, API access, and hashtag discovery.
Figure Credits are one-time purchases that never expire — you buy them once and use them whenever your next paper, grant, or presentation is ready. There is no monthly billing, no subscription commitment, and no pressure to 'use them or lose them.' Researchers love credits because their need for figures comes in bursts — around submission deadlines, conferences, and grant cycles — not on a predictable monthly schedule. Each credit generates one scientific illustration with one free refinement and an auto-written figure caption. 3D journal cover art uses 3 credits per figure due to higher generation complexity.
On individual plans (Starter, Basic, Pro), your illustration allowance resets every month — 10 illustrations on Basic means 10 fresh credits on your renewal date each month. On team and institutional plans (Lab, Department, Institution), illustrations are a shared annual pool for all seats combined for the entire subscription year. A Lab License gets 750 illustrations total shared across 5 seats for 12 months — not 750 per month per person. Unused team illustrations do not roll over to a new subscription year.
No. On individual subscription plans (Starter, Basic, Pro), both post allowances and illustration credits reset on your billing renewal date each month and do not carry forward. If you run out mid-month, purchase a Figure Credit pack — credits never expire and can be used alongside any subscription.
First time trying morphedra: Free plan (2 illustrations/month, no credit card). Occasional researcher publishing 1-3 papers per year: Starter Pack ($19.99 for 10 credits — pay once, use when needed). Active researcher or frequent presenter: Pro Pack ($44.99 for 25 credits), Power Pack ($119.99 for 75 credits) or Basic monthly ($14.99/month). High-volume researcher or science writer: Power Pack ($119.99 for 75 credits — $1.60/figure). Research lab up to 5 members: Lab License ($999/year, 750 illustrations shared). Academic department up to 25 members: Department ($2,999/year, 3,000 illustrations shared). University, hospital, or large journal: Institution ($4,999/year, 6,000 illustrations, 50 seats). Need more than 50 seats or a custom quote? Contact support@morphedra.com.
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately with prorated credit applied for the remaining billing period. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period. No refunds are issued for unused time on a downgraded plan. Figure Credits are separate from subscriptions and are never affected by plan changes.
Annual plans carry significant built-in savings. Figure Credits never expire, making them naturally economical for low-frequency users. We are open to custom pricing discussions for universities, public health organisations, and NGOs with large or multi-department requirements. Contact support@morphedra.com to discuss.

Yes. Illustration credit packs and video credit packs can be purchased without an active subscription and unlock the core generation features. Note that DOI metadata fetching, News and Views highlights, and engagement prediction require an active subscription plan.
Illustration credit packs and Science Library credits do not expire while your account is active. Video credits also do not expire while your account is active. All unused credits are forfeited upon account deletion.
Subscription illustrations are generated fresh from your specific research input — you paste/write your research text or paste DOI and the morphedra creates something new. Science Library downloads are pre-made, professionally curated mechanism illustrations you browse and download instantly. The two systems are completely separate: subscription illustration credits cannot be used in the Science Library, and Science Library credits cannot be used for illustration generation.
Features
8 questionsText you provide directly — an abstract, results section, or key findings. You can also import metadata directly via DOI (Digital Object Identifier), PubMed ID, ArXiv ID, patent number (USPTO, EPO, WIPO), or UN document number, if you'd rather not paste text manually. PDF upload and GitHub repository links are on our roadmap.
2D scientific diagrams: graphical abstracts, mechanistic pathway diagrams, experimental workflow figures, grant proposal figures, conceptual diagrams, patient education visuals, and policy brief graphics. 3D journal cover art: high-quality cinematic scientific illustrations for journal cover submissions, grant vision pages, and institutional presentations.
morphedra offers 16 tones (12 for 2D figures, 4 for 3D cover art). The 12 2D tones are: Professional, Publisher, Journal-Ready, Grant Writing, Casual, Infographic, Funny, Policy Brief, Isometric, Conference Buzz, Industry Impact, and Structure Diagram. Each transforms the same research content into a different voice optimised for a specific audience.
Posts are optimised for Twitter/X (character limits, hashtag conventions), LinkedIn (professional register, longer format), Instagram (caption-friendly, visual-first), and Facebook. Each platform receives a format-specific version of the content in a single generation.
morphedra generates content based on the metadata and abstract you provide — it does not invent experimental data. However, morphedra can misinterpret or oversimplify complex mechanisms. All generated content must be reviewed by a domain expert before submission or publication. You are responsible for the accuracy of published content.
The video feature is currently in beta. Video credits are purchased as one-time packs in Standard or Corporate tier. You submit a research abstract and morphedra generates a short animated video abstract. Standard videos carry an academic license. Corporate videos carry a commercial license and include a usage certificate PDF. All videos are delivered securely by email.
News and Views highlights are short (50-150 word) summaries of research papers written in the accessible style of journal News and Views sections — designed for journal websites, newsletters, blog posts, and conference programs. Generated automatically alongside social posts. Available on Basic plans and above.
The engagement prediction feature analyses content characteristics, tone, hashtag effectiveness, and topic trends to estimate which posts are likely to generate more interaction. It is an advisory tool — not a guarantee — and is available on Basic plans and above.
